place your hand sideways over the screen (pinkie finger on the top of the screen - wrist at the bottom) and swipe your whole hand across the screen.

Yes sadly if its not in the manual then its not an onboard function. You might be able to get some 3rd party software for it to allow it have a look around online good luck in your search .

unless im doing something wrong it doesn't seem to work
i am holding down the power button and taping the home button if i do that for a long time the power off option comes up
and if i only do it for a second it just turns off the screen

yeh that dont work with this phone but then again it is one of those coles / safeway deal phones

yeh i have tried that and as i have stated all that happens is the power off and phone mode options pop up

It took me about 4-5 times to get them at the same time.....the swipe is a lot easier. This is a built in function to Android 2.3.4 and later.

Try power and decrease volume buttons at the same time. Has worked for the phone that I own.
