How do i unmute my microphone

Hello,
does anybody know how to unmute the microphone on the HP touch smart?

At the bottom right hand corner of the monitor there should be a volume (Speaker) icon next to the clock.
Right click the speaker then click on Recording devices.

I tried to do this but nothing happens when I click or double-click on Recording devices. How do I fix it?

Hi Gandalf,

I tried that . However, nothing happens when I try to open the Sound icon. There are three sections under Sound- Adjust System Volume, Change System sounds, and Manage Audi Devices. Only the Adjust System Volume opens when I click on it- nothing opens when I click the other sections. Why would that happen, and how do I fix it? Thanks.
