How do I upgrade/update my Android tablet

I have a Trio Model Stealth Pro 9.7. I have no clue how I should update it. Everything in the app center requires at least an Android 4.1. Mine is an Android 4.0.4. Do I need to download the update on my external SD card or do I need to wipe the system some how? I'm relatively new to this stuff so I would appreciate details.

You need an update made specifically for your tablet, by that tablet' manufacturer. But chances are slim, check with the manufactuer.

It said my device is not supported... Is it still safe to run anyway?

If you want to go unsupported route, you need to know a lot about your device - CPU model, GPU model, thinks like that. I would not go this route, but this is your tablet, your choice. And you risk moving from not-so-great-tablet to not-working-non-fixable-tablet.

If there are not any other options, I will just sell it. It's basically brand new so I can probably make enough to get an updated replacement. (A smaller one though) Thanks for you help.

What applications require 4.1? I have a few year old phone with 2.2 something and it installed everything I tried from the Google Play store.

I just picked some random programs, SimCity BuildIt which was updated on Dec 8 requires 2.3.3
Hulu states need 4.0 and up but it works fine on my old phone.
Netflix is "varies" but that means that there are different versions available.
