How do you lock camera view?

It's hard for me to drive when the camera isn't locked behind the car. I
would think that mouse look would work but it doesn't.

I tried the 'steer with mouse' option but it didnt seem to make any
difference to the camera behaviour. In the end I learned how to drive
with just my left hand on the ASDW keys, thumb on space bar for
handbrake, and have my right hand on the mouse so I control the view at
all times. It was annoying at first (crashing into everything just like
when I first started on GTAIII) but after completing a number of taxi,
pimp and ambulance missions I have it mastered and wouldn't want to go
back. Now as I drive along I can spin the view up, down, around the car
to look at scenery and then back to the 'behind the car' view without
crashing (well, usually), and when I want to back up I spin the mouse
round to see what's behind me. It was worth the effort,

I redefined right mouse as handbrake, which I think was default in VC.
It takes a while to get used to using the mouse to change the camera,
but I am starting to like it.

Selecting the option to drive with the mouse helps, even if you still
use the keyboard.

Actually, I set it to mouse steer and it seems to work ok until I move the
mouse, that is.

It's taking me a while to get used to the mousecam, but I kind of like
it. It would be nice to be able to set the camera angle a little higher
by default, and to speed up the rate that the camera snaps back to
being forward-looking, but that's all minor.

I overcame this by practice. Just drive with the WASD keys and use the mouse
to put the camera behind your car. After a while you will get used to it and
find it beneficial when you start controlling the camera to look around
corners and such, it comes in real handy when taking over hoods and you are
trying to find gangs to attack. You'll get used to it, just use the mouse to
keep the camera behind you and you'll get it.
