How do you set up the internet on a hi-grade laptop (windows x[)?

Hello, a while ago now i purchased a hi-grade laptop in 2007! back in 2007 we were connected to an orange router but we have recently changed our router to a talk talk live box, i was just wondering how you set up the new internet router onto this laptop,

what the heck is talk talk live box? is that a router? did you read the manual?
