How does a hard drive enclosure case work, and will it work with an optical drive?

Hello,

I've seen some enclosure cases on various websites. I don't have any SATA cables for the optical drive I currently own, and I'm not sure how to mount an optical drive in my current case. What is a hard drive enclosure case, and how does it work? I want to ply Guitar Hero 3 on my PC, but I don't have an optical drive. Will this work with that? (I can grab an extra SATA cable if needed.)

Thanks!

I currently have an Antec One case. Are there 5.25" external enclosure cases?

I have that exact same case.
If you have a standard CD/DVD drive, you can install that directly into the front of that case.

What optical drive do you have?

Not entirely sure; it's an old optical drive from my dad's old Dell Inspiron 530 computer.
If you need specifics, I can get it out of the computer right now and check if it says anywhere.

Does it have SATA connections?

I'm unscrewing the case and getting the optical drive out. I'll take a picture of it and post it to imgur when I get it out.

If it can't fit internally, is there any way I can set it up externally?

Connected it, and it powers on. When I insert my Guitar Hero 3 disc, nothing pops up. I'm using Windows 8.1 N. Help?

Nevermind; I had to install some drivers. It now appears in File Manager.

You were still very helpful. Thank you very much!
