Its just the uneven rates of progress, consider what i have is practically the same as what i had 18 years ago, yet only a mere 6 years after Saga Lout's email speed test fail with the fax.
Phenomenal rate of change to stagnation (and 18 years is eons in the tech world). I'm no spring chicken but i admit i am impatient for technology.
Year 2000 was also when i first learned of stem cells, they had repaired (to some function) the spinal columns of rats by merely soaking bio wool in fluid , cut n fill. Where our Jake's body repair shop & stem cell injections (while you wait)?
I want to see world's change before i die. Missions to Europa & all that jazz.
Thanks to the mathematicians, chemists & engineers.

UK could invest more into network infrastructure. Big dogs like Sky only offering measly 76Mbps (if You're feeling optimistic) and Virgin just scratching 350Mbps as of recently. Where is 1Gbps? And the upload speeds are laughable even more.

I agree about the UK - it's farcical. BT part owns Openreach and won't let go and the Government won't force it to. Add to that, most people in towns only have fibre to the cabinet with only copper the rest of the to the house. In the town where I live they didn't even use copper when the orignal cables were laid, to save some money. Sky says I have 39 but the reality is closer to 28 and, as you say, it's ADSL where the A is for asynchronous so we shall never have the upload speed matching the download.

I've said it before but the UK is in the Third World of Internet services and not even leading that world.

And it becomes even more of a farce when all of my financial institutions, utilities, and other places of business all keep forcing "paperless" down my throat.

Paperless not is very accommodating when the "network" is down or worthlessly slow.

No way to make payments or to get information. E.g., some printed proof of payment or funds transferred. Or read and compare the monthly statements so I can look for new fees that not so obviously creep in.

Just about the time I figure out how the computations are all being made, I get some "new and improved online statement" notice. Usually costs me more somewhere....

Seems like every month I need to access some account and reverse my "options" from paperless back to commercial/paper mail. Or otherwise uncheck annoying online "options".

Call for support and get "Please visit our web page". Seldom of any help for a real problem.

Very, very, difficult for many senior citizens or otherwise impaired folks. With or without workable service.
