hey

My old rig having e5200(?) an old lga775 dual core has temps of 50C after a repaste

same with the gpu on that rig- a 9400GT idling at 60C

NOTE- it has absolutely no dust , with good airflow

the components are 7 yrs old almost.

ambient is 40 C

so how bad is it?
PS- i am not that good a repasting , but i am sure i did it decently this time

If you have everything air cooled and not liquid cooled then those temps are fine.

air cooled. the ting is that this PC is used by my grandfather , and i wont be able to maintain it at a whim and of course replace it. i am worried about the lie of the ol' cpu and gpu . i am sure htat 60 C isnt fine

It's fine as long as there is no overclocking whatsoever. The GPU is more than likely rated for 90-100'C max temps and the CPU shouldn't ever get above 70'C to keep it safe. If these ever do, then you would need to look into liquid cooling option.

dont worry , no oc.
yeah i was worried about the cpu so close to the limit ( well more than the life , it is the unbearable thermal throttlng that bothers me)

GPU- must observe under normal load( HD vids in this case)

then yes, those idle temps are great, 10 over ambient for the cpu is great. and 20 for the gpu isnt bad either.

no cooling solution will bridge that 20degrees gap btw (between normal 20 ambient and your 40), you should consider an ac unit, or a small box/closet in which to place a small ac and the pc if you want to get under 50 degrees.

the problem is even if your ambient temp is 40 it doesnt mean the throttle speed is not the same 80C so instead of a 60 degree initial headroom you're working with 40.
cooling (be it air or closed loop water) will close the gap to the ambient, they can't physically cool it to bellow ambient. i wonder though if there's a commercial liquid nitro cooling solution, that would do the trick.

haha, actually this CPU doenot go under much strain ( though it exceeded 90 C for opening firefox before repasting)
About the AC - house is fully air conditioned. so during noon or nights the room temp is around 25C.But you cant have an ac running whenever you use the pc.

Forget liq nitrogen cooling mate, once out of boredom i made my rig sit in front of a 2 tonne ac at full blow, and guess what ? the temps under heavy load was around 50C with the ambient 24C.

seriously though, does anyone apart from extreme competitive ocers use liq nitrogen cooling? seems expensive to maintain and obtain

hmmm... similar but a bit newer and more powerful.

yeah , i build my rigs to last for a long time (not as a gaming rig forever , but for normal use) , and i currently have no desktop to replace this one till i change my current rig ( maybe 2 yrs) , thats what i got scared

Thanks to the CPU gods for this.
