Hi I was just wondering how high a temperature was too high for a AMD 965be while folding. I usually have my PC on for a few hours a day while I jump on and off browsing the web etc. I figured if its going to be on anyway might as well put it to good use in the Folding@Home project. If I set it to use 100% off the idle processes it runs about 59C. My question is that too hot and should I run it at 100% or lower the system tray app to run at 75% or something to lower temps.
Thanks

59c is ok for 100% load. Yes, undervolting/better heatsink would work, but might not be your cup of tea.

The easiest solution is what you suggested, dropping it to 75% or 50% to see if you can get the temps down a bit.

If it was me, I would get the temps into the high 40's, low 50's. But like I said, 59 is ok. But its close. I wouldn't want it to break 60.

Ok thanks for the info. I think I've decided to invest in a new heatsink/fan, I should have done it when I built the computer but wasn't thinking I'd need the extra cooling. I'm also thinking about overclocking the processor, that should hopefully increase my ppd. If anyone has heatsink recommendations let me know.
Thanks

I liked the look of that but I checked the measurements of my case and I'm not sure how well that will fit with my 240mm side fan in my Enermax case.

Ok thanks for that site, I'm going to try to find out the exact distance I have for a CPU cooler and go from there, Thanks for your help, nice having a second opinion. 😀
