How is Graphics Card Width Measured?

I looking at r9 380s and my case side panel is 5.5 inches from the pic slot and I need to know how the width of graphics cards is measured so i don't by a card that doesn't fit. Does it include the pcie port ? I have an lenovo k450e

I think you mean height. The longest dimension is length which coolcole pointed out. Width and height are standardized. There's half height which are slim cases and there's full height which is most desktops like yours. For a tower, height actually goes sideways, from the pcie slot out the side of the case. Width is single slot, dual slot, and the rare triple slot. Most cards are dual slot. So only length changes for most mid to top end cards. This is different than what you think it would be because it just carries over from the older days when pcs were laid on the big side, not standing up like towers.

Most cards quote the dimensions they are in the specifications in a lot of cases.
So you can check to see if the length, and width of the card will fit your case.

For example here is a R9380 card from XFX if you click on the specs list it shows you all of the measurements, dimensions of the card in cm or inches. Measured from the fixing/ IO bracket of the card. to it`s back edge.

Why do you say the gtx 960 is better

BTW already have upgraded psu to a 600w
