How is Razer Synapse 2.0?

I'm thinking about buying a Razer keyboard and mouse, but I heard LOTS of negative things about Synapse 2.0. Like it's not detecting your products, and bugs like that.

So my question is, is Razer Synapse 2.0 really that bad? Because all that negative feedback kinda prevents me from buying a Razer product.

I've never had an issue with their software personally. I have a Razer DeathAdder and it is always detected and connected. The software updates itself when needed and makes the customization of the functions of the mouse easy to configure. I've never owned a Razer keyboard so I have no experience with them, but my experience with synapse has been positive.

Keep in mind that online reviews in general are going to be negative. Most people don't go through the trouble of posting a review for a positive experience :-/

it works but its a royal pain in the you know what.

why do i not like it?

-it requires you to create an account to use the drivers (why do i need to give an email address for mouse drivers?)
-it wants to backup and load from the cloud instead of local (though you can change this)
-it sometimes has trouble detecting devices (but i've never had it not find the device after a bit of updating/fiddling with it)
-otherwise... its the same thing as the old drivers used to be.

i'm a big fan of the deathadder (i own a 3.5g) but i'll only use the 3.5g model or older generations that still have regular drivers on my on system since i'm not a fan of synapse 2.0. for reference, a family member does have synapse on his daily driver (uses a naga hex) and it does work.

Here is my story.
I have Razer Deathadder and it's an exceptionally good mouse (for me). You have ergonomics, serious-not-flashy design and 2 binding buttons.
The thing is that you can control your DPI only through Synapse. For the last two months I was playing CSGO with occasional mouse freezes as if it lost control or something was blocking the sensor. You can't imagine how annoying it was. I blamed my mouse, I cleaned it, even hit it a few times (what i never usually do). However, the problem was the majestic, futuristic Razer Synapse 2.0 (because 1.0 is too mainstream) which for some reason made all the trouble.

Don't buy Razer gear unless you are really sure or really want it. It is overpriced and not worth the money.

Razer Synapse 2.0 blows chunks.

I own 3 Razer keyboards, 2 mice, 1 OrbWeaver and a BlackShark headset.

The BlackWidow Stealth keyboard I just purchased will be my last Razer device because I hate synapse 2.0 and the dysfunctional bloated "cloud" BS that comes with it. I just want well-made devices with no marketing gimmicks. I have been willing to tolerate the overly flashy but less than useful user interface of Synapse 2.0 because my BlackWidow Tournament keyboards and other hardware are of excellent quality (except the BlackShark headset which is too heavy and quite uncomfortable).

But that tolerance has ended after I plugged in my new BlackWidow Stealth and have been waiting hours for Synapse 2.0 to download a software update in order to user it. I am a software engineer and sysadmin, and it looks like either Razer's servers are overloaded, screwed, or experiencing a DDoS attack. In any case, they are 100% culpable for inserting a completely unnecessary dependency on their network infrastructure to download a HUGE bloatware app just to use a freakin keyboard.

Razer: if you don't include a DVD then your server infrastructure must be stable and able to cope with the load or DDoS attacks, or whatever is going on.

To add insult to injury, the update app says "do not disconnect any Razer devices or restart your computer until the update finishes"
THERE SHOULD BE A "cancel" BUTTON if the update has a potential to take 5 hours.

i have the razer naga and the razer blackwidow ultimate keyboard and never had a problem maybe because i dont really use it. Other than that, updating takes a long long time.

I own the DeathAdder 2013 and love it, but as a gamer (I assume you are, considering it's sold as a gaming mouse), it might be worth considering that PunkBuster has acknowledged that Synapse 2.0 is known to cause errors and kick you out of Battlefield 4 (I've been having this issue frequently recently and their tech. support just informed me of the conflict yesterday). Granted, I've yet to experience the same PunkBuster issue with any other games, but considering BF4's popularity, I thought it might be worth mentioning.
