Hey there, I've been looking over laptops and noted that a few of them (usually the cheap ones) don't give you any estimate of how long the battery will last before it needs recharging. One I have my eye on as it's pretty affordable (I'm on a tight budget) won't give any clear answer. Previous laptops I've had have lasted roughly 8 hours but with this one I'm just getting the quite cryptic:

Lithium Battery Energy Content: ‎34.2 Watt Hours
Voltage : ‎7.6 Volts
Wattage : 34.2 Watt Hours

I somehow doubt this means the battery would last over 34 hours without recharging and maths is not my strong point so trying to figure it out for myself is doing my head in. Looking online hasn't helped either no matter what search terms I use.

So can anyone help me figure out what the average battery life would be for a laptop like this when it's only being used for word processing and excel work?

If it helps at all, the laptop in question is at : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...wc_img_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2L0EW3U4NREJX

I would stay a mile away from laptops like this. This low price is achieved by using cheapest components (I've seen a "laptop" made from smartphone board with two smartphone batteries). In your case - slow CPU, even slower storage (EMC is not SSD), mediocre LCD. I doubt you can even Youtube on it without problems with modern browsers.

Another red flag is "Windows 10 Pro" - there's no way Pro license can be included in $179 price.

The numbers for the battery do not mean anything - nobody (even the manufacturer) knows how much that laptop draws in order to calculate the battery runtime.
Your best bet is to look at ones you are interested in with the largest battery and "weakest" components. Their spec should offer a very optimistic view of possible battery life. Consider probably 75% of that as reality and go from there.

Much of battery life is going to depend on load, brightness, and so forth. Larger battery and more cell count helps.
