How long does it to a BIOS update my computer is still blank I am getting nervous

I have windows 8 on my Toshiba. Toshiba informed me I needed an update. I don't know that much about computers. It said it needed to run a BIOS update, so I updated it. My laptop has been blank for about 20 minutes and I can here it running with a orange light at the base of computer. It said not to turn off or unplug. Is this normal and will my PC go back to it's normal state once it's done updating or will I have to do something to it. I am scared I have done something that may not be able to be reversed.

Once the process is started you can not turn off the machine without risking a bad bios flash. If this happens then the only recourse is sending the machine to them to be repaired. let it go for a while. It is always best to do research before doing a BIOS update so you know the steps and what to do to prevent a bad flash.

Usually less than two minutes. Some firmware updates may muck up the VGA driver on Windows 8 though. Usually it will recover, but if it doesn't it should be safe to restart.
