Hi! I love how the GTX 750ti only needs a 300w power supply, so i am about to get it, but i was wondering how long it will last? In 1 year do you think it could barely play modern games at low settings or should it have 2-3 years at least of low-medium settings at 60+ fps?

2-3 Years Medium to High Settings, You have to remember your CPU plays a big factor in FPS so unless your running a I5-4690k or above 60+fps is a pipe dream.

Everyone has different standards, I was gaming on a GTX 570 with an old core 2 quad and I was fine with that everything remained playable and in my eyes better than console graphics. But now that ps4 and xbone are in full swing you might be somewhat disappointed in comparison.

In March of 2011, Tom's Hardware did an article on the gtx550ti. That was almost 4-1/2 yrs ago and at the time, the gtx550ti was basically a brand new powerful card. Today, the 550ti really isn't on anyone's shopping list, not even to sli as a single gtx970 will out-perform that sli, and costs less. The gtx750/750ti doesn't even have the advantage of being either powerful nor sli capable and is only 1-1/2 yrs old. With its low power consumption, it may be a staple for the next few years for the 300w crowd, but that's only if not replaced by a new gtx940 or some such, that has the same power requirements yet better performance with the new HBM memory. Also, a lot will depend on the games. If LoL or CoD loose servers, which happens every 5-6 yrs of game life usually, then lower performance cards are going to take a huge hit as games like WoW and the Battlefield series, FarCry and Metal Gear only get increasingly complex, requiring more powerful gpus.

You might get another 1-1/2 yrs on a750/750ti, but after that, it'll pretty much be "gaming obsolete". 3 yrs is about right for the lifespan of any gpu, as shown by the 550ti, or even more recently, the gtx 690 2Gb vrs gtx970 4Gb and the 690 was the flagship powerhouse.

If you pay more you get more life out of the GPU, If you want 60+ fps then expect to replace the GPU every two years and your CPU every 3 years. What I consider Obsolete is "fails to be playable even in low" that would be something like a 8800 GT. A 750TI and even a 650 TI will still have enough power to hit Low settings in 3 years. Now for him wanting 60+ FPS a 750 TI wouldn't do that at launch much less now, lets be reasonable here.

$120-$175 - Expect 2-3 Low to Medium Settings "Expect lower fps and Spikes"
$180-$275- Expect 3-4 Years Medium or Mixed High "Expect less Spikes and Higher fps"
$275+ Expect 4-5 Years Medium and better Expect "More Stable fps but wont hold 60+ all the time"

I don’t recommend upgrading your graphics card unless the replacement card is at least three tiers higher "From Toms Hardware"

Any one that still owns one of these can contest that they still work beyond your expect 3 year life. GTX 580, GTX 670, HD 5970, 7870 LE (XT), 7950, 280, 285 notice where these fall in Launch price range and how old they are.

Bad PC Ports like Far Cry 3,4, Arkham Knight, Witcher 3 and so on need Higher end Hardware to push through the bad code. GTA V which initially was a bad Port is now optimized to a point that it will run with tweaking on CPU/GPU combos that are far below the minimum specs. Old MMO's that have API's based on DX 9 like WoW and GW2 are pretty CPU dependent, although they may try to update they still use the CPU more than they should so GPU's matter far less. Most of these games you wont notice a difference between a $175 GPU and a $500 GPU.

How cards compare look here, How long something lasts depends on your expectations not everyone cares about Ultra 60+ fps or even 60+ fps. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

Gotta agree with that, mostly, I own a 8800GT 512 and it struggles with even something as simple as the MSN.com homepage on an XP system using IE 8. I also own a 660ti witch has no problems running GW2 although I do have the settings on AC3 turned down a little, same with my heavily modded skyrim. I also own a gtx970 which has 0 issues maxing everything including the new Metal Gear and runs everything it can under dsp resolutions. Is there a difference? Yep, noticeable one. So I guess it is about expectations to some degree. I own 6 pc's, 2 of which run Ivy Bridge cpus that are decently oc'd and a PS 2 that hasn't seen anything but dust for years. Owning 2 decent pc's I game on, my expectations are that what I play will be better than that PS 2 collecting dust. Considering the difference between a PS 2 and a PS 4, I'd like to think that what I play should also be better than what's on a PS 4 too. A 750ti on med-low settings isn't what I would consider worth owning a pc for, but that's just me.
