Hey guys so this is going to be my first build and i was wondering if the following components would make for a good system or if the system would even work? if so how long am i looking at a life span for the system?

CPU - I5-4690k
case - NZXT H440 OR Corsair SPEC-03
PSU - Corsair CX750 80+
RAM - HyperX fury 8gb (2x4gb) 1866MHz
HDD - 1TB segate 7200rpm
cooling - corsair h100i
MoBo - MSI Z87-G43
GPU - i was thinking a 7990

any suggestions guys?

If you're looking to save money on the GPU I'd go with the 280x then you could crossfire in the future. For my first build I used a cooler master hyper 212 EVO instead if water cooling, which is cheaper and kept good temps. I agree with others above regarding the z97, since you're looking to keep this rig for a while you might as well get the newer chipset. I personally like the ASRock Z97 EXTREME6 and normally check out lists like these:

Thoughts:

Drop the water cooling. There's too much that can go catastrophically wrong with it to use in a first build.
Get a Z97 motherboard. There's really no reason not to, Z87 you have to play the "is this updated for Haswell refresh or not?" game. Don't get the 7990, it's a lot of money for a card that's probably outclassed by a single 980 overclocked reasonably well.

Zerk2012

Titan
Ambassador
Their nothing wrong with warer cooling I use it.
Defently get the GTX 980
That PC will probably last about 3 years when the low quality power supply gives out. I would look at other brands, Seasonic XFX, Rosewell Capstone, or EVGA G2 series.
And yes switch to a Z97 motherboard.

what sort of things may go wrong with the water cooling? i have only heard good things about the h100i. So whats the difference in the chipset z97 and z87? also the 980 is far more expensive, currently i can pick up a 7990 for around £200 less, another option i was thinking about was picking up a 280x which i can pick up for around £100 cheaper than the 7990 then picking up a second for crossfire if i need the extra power in the future, would that be better or?

why would the PSU give out so easily? also the 7990 is far cheaper for me at the moment looking at £250 in comparison to around £450 for the 980, would crossfire 280x be better than a 7990 in the long run?

Not sure if you still want an answer seeing as your responses from others haven't been helpful but generally speaking your build will last you well over 5 years considering the parts you purchased are pretty fast. I would drop the 7990 for a GTX 970 to last you even longer, but everything about your build is rock solid. The power supply is fine and by no means will you encounter problems with the h100i. You would only really run into issues when your custom water cooling. I for example am still rocking an e8400 core2duo from like 2008 and it still manages to play games like battlefield 4 at decent frames so don't even sweat it! I speak from experience.
