How long with the i5 last me?

Im thinking about getting a Intel Core i5 4590 to last me a while. How long will this core last me, also are there other options that may be better?

It will last you 10 years or more if you look after it - don't let it get too hot. But after 5 years max, you'll want a better one.

I have a working Ahtlon XP from like 2003 and a Pentium 3 from 1999

I expect it will be fine for most usage till the next -gen consoles arrive (our current next gen ones have become current gen)

iv been using a dual core for the last 5 years maybe more and it still can run most games in a good quality with a good videocard... as long as the aplication/game you run is not cpu based you wont find any problem/bottleneck on the graphics -if you have a good videocard to match with the processor- ... as it is not a K processor, it cannot be overclocked and someday you will need a more powerfull cpu for the next generation games/aplications... i would say depending on... what you are gonna do with it... it could last longer without needing to get a new one... if you want gamming it wil be ok for the next 5 years i believe... with a good videocard with high graphics settings, not ultra in all the tittles but in most of them very high details... you asked for better options if you want something to last longer maybe 10 years then Intel Core i5-4690K or Intel Core i7-4790K could be better options because they can be overclocked... but remember the better the processor the better the videocard you will need to use if you want a 120% cpu usage... - www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106.html check this it could help you, read the reviews and the test, then you could chose depending your needs -

Easily 10 years, but I upgrade around every 4 years. You can't really put a time frame on it because we will never know the process and speed of the advancement of technology. Maybe tomorrow some scientist finds a way to mine 60,000,000 bitcoin but he will need 5x 4960X's?

Same with games too, but judging by the way things are going and the power of that processor, easily the 4 -10 years.
