How many cores are actually in a 'core i5'

So either I missed something somewhere or most likely just dont comprehend it. But with the new intel core i5 or some i7's with the integrated graphics on the same die, how many cores are there actually? since one core is the graphics..

So does this mean a quad core is actually 3 core cpu 1 core gpu.. or is it still 4 core cpu, 1 gpu making it a 5 core?
thnx

None of the currently available Intel CPUs have graphics on die. That is planned, but currently unavailable. From what I can tell, i5 CPUs are those which have 4 threads. This means they are either 4 cores without SMT (1 thread per core) or dual cores with SMT (2 threads per core). Currently, the i5-750 is the only i5 available, and it is a quad core without SMT.

Core i7 / Core i5 = Four CPU cores only:

from this article

Future un-named CPU in the Westmere family will have the CPU and GPU in the CPU package:

I think the naming system is based on number of threads. i3 = 2 threads, i5 = 4 threads (whether via a dual with SMT or a quad without), i7=8 threads, and possibly i9=12 threads.

SO then Core i13 would mean 16 threads? Or Core i14..... Man this will hurt my head....

Interesting. So I think its going to have the GPU connected to the L3 as well/. Wounder what that will do for it.

That wouldn't work, I3 is a dual core with HT to enable 4 threads.

Surprised they don't call it an aye-aye, as in "Aye-aye, 3 bags full Sir!" 😀.

OTOH, AMD already beat Intel to the last level - they have the 'eye-finity' :).

For our dear friend jennyh, I'd suggest a specially branded CPU - the X-eye-X (a Crossfired i-core, or cross-eye for short 😀)

Well for the Core I(x) it would be odd numbers. i5 i7 i9 i11 i13 ect.

cores/ht

i5: 4/4
i7: 4/8
i9: 6/12
(if they continue this trend then it should go like this)
i11:8/16
i13 10/20
Ect.

cant say it hurts may head.
