[SOLVED] How many NVME SSD's can i Put in my machine?

I got a B450 Tomahawk, Ryzen 2700, 1 Sata HDD, 1 SATA SSD, 1 pcie 3.0 NVME. I think online it says My cpu has 20 lanes which means my GPU + NVME = 20 lanes. Does that mean I cant get two nvmes ? if i wanted TWO NVME's by getting a PCIE card, would that slow down the NVMES as that would make 24 lanes ? or how would it work ?

As people pointed out, your motherboard have only one PCIe 3.0 NVMe capable M.2 slot. So only one NVME drive natively for this board. However if you want to use additional NVMe drives, buy PCIe NVMe adapter card. There are some for example:

PCIe x4 adapter for single PCIe 3.0 NVMe or M.2 SSD drive.
PCIe x4 adapter for PCIe 3.0 NVMe drive and M.2 SATA drive.
PCIe x8/x16 adapter for two PCIe 3.0 NVMe drives. Obviously a bit expensive. Goes into second long PCIe slot.

FYI: Because all other PCIe slots behind GPU slot are PCIe 2.0, data transfer speed for NVMe disks on adapter card will be twice slower than for NVMe disk in motherboard M.2 slot.

Your motherboard has only 1 M.2 slot according to MSI website. If you wanted more you would use the PCIe slot. It is only PCIe 2.0 x4 (from the chipset). So it would have 1/2 the speed of the M.2 in the motherboard slot.

Multiple drives does not necessitate multiple NVMe drives.
Throw a couple of SATA III SSD in there and move on.

It did in this case... Black Friday sale 50% off. Of course, I'm speaking as someone who doesn't buy a $500 processor and then go cheap mode with a $50 cooler or spend thousands on a PC and want to put it all in a $60 case. 👍

"Price" is/was a whole different consideration.

However...your current motherboard does not want to speak to multiple PCIe 3.0 drives.

You got a point there. As soon as I read the reviews on this board and saw the 3 m.2 slots I could only think of one thing... SPEED.
