How many solid state hard drives?

I'm looking into getting some SSHD for my desktop, I know that typically a drive comes with the storage (HDD) and about 8GB of flash memory (SSD)

It's for gaming, so:

is it better to get a high capacity SSHD (I was thinking this would limit how much is stored on the flash memory) or two lower capacity SSHD (so essentially having 16GB of flash memory divided between two SSHD)

(I know that two lower capacity storage would ensure if one of them crashed, I wouldn't lose everything But this question is for performance)

Also, I was already thinking of getting a low capacity SSD for just my Windows

Solution

Me personally would just get a 128gb SSD for your Windows and a 500gb-1tb HDD for everything else.

It's much more hassle-free mate.

I would agree with 06yfz450ridr's point. I think 128gb is just fine though. Software doesn't have to be lightning fast but the software that you do want to be fast like Chrome, maybe a small game or two, put them on the SSD and everything else on HDD.

SSD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Solid-State-Drive/dp/B00P738Z8O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1432058297&sr=8-3&keywords=128gb+ssd

HDD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-3-5-inch-Internal-Hard-Drive/dp/B00FJRS6FU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432058317&sr=8-1&keywords=WD+black

Aboout £110. That's it! :)

Your initial question speaks to two completely different things. SSD vs SSHD.

An SSHD is very much of an interim solution. Small SSD (8GB) portion married with a large (1TB) HDD portion.

If you use 2 SSHD drives, the 8GB each is not shared. Each drive only talks to its own 8GB SSD portion. The firmware on the drive learns what specific files (not applications) are used most often, and only those end up on the SSD space. 8GB for each drive.

120GB SSD + 1TB (or larger) HDD is very much the preferred setup.
