questions :

Based on my current OC of 4.5 GHz @ 1.46 V (there exist small fluctuations due to LLC) , how much more do you guys think I can get out of this?

PS - can my 650W PSU handle the potential 5ghz (or close) OC along with my new h100i and gtx 760 which is overclocked as well ?

Running the test at stress level "very high" and for 10 passes ~ 30-35 min, Intel Burn Test net a max temperature of 49.6 degrees Celsius. I am very happy with this, seeing as It's a 13 degree drop from my H60 cooler that was previously powering my 8320 (at the same OC settings mentioned above).

Most stressful thing I do to my PC is game (BF4, witcher, metro, crysis). I'm just looking for a high OC that will maybe max out around 55-60 degrees, insothat when I game, I'll be comfortable with hopeful 5 GHz overclock i'm hoping to achieve as a result of some useful knowledge I can gain from this conversation

Many thanks for your consideration if you feel like chimming in.

I am actually. However, I don't suggest anyone even trying to reach those speeds as he was going to buy a new CPU and he couldn't care less if this one would fry...

Well... be more responsible with your words here then. Not trying to be rude but, "my friend over clocked his 8120 to 6gzh fine" is a bit misleading. Getting the number is one thing ,having it usable for more then 15 seconds is another. 5ghz is stressing that card quite a bit. From research, 4.7-5.0 is about the limit of that cpu... which in all honesty is friggin plenty for anything right now.

Id say you are prob at the sweet spot of the chip, trading off voltage needed and heat against temperatures!

You are really wanting to stay under or around the 60 degree mark with the FX stuff so by all means see if you can squeeze out a couple 100mhz more out of it, but I would think it will take more voltage and more heat.

The 8120 is bulldozer is it not?

Anyway, to the OP, those voltages are pretty high for 4.5GHz - I'm at 4.4GHz with 1.34v, then again not all chips are created equal.

I guess you can OC it to wherever you'd like, your limits are the 1.5v and 60C core temp and 72C socket temp.

This might help: http://www.overclock.net/t/1348623/amd-bulldozer-and-piledriver-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboard Should work even though you haven't got an Asus board.

Thanks! I could try my 4.5 at a lower voltage but not sure. Problem is LLC bumps up my voltage, I'm at high LLC setting. I don't know if I should turn LLC off for higher oberclocks or keep it :(

What would you guys say the max voltage I can go, 1.55 ? ...that okay as long as stress test is under 60 ?

No, 1.5v is the absolute max. I think I have LLC turned off.

My LLC set at "high" took a +.075 voltage boost (in the bios) up to 1.55 V In windows during Intel burn test for 10 min before I shut down when I noticed the voltage. I remembered anything over 1.5 is not recommended. Hope my cpu is okay. Should be fine, temps weren't high only like 56 - 58 degrees. That was all at 4.8ghz I tried last night. However, I reverted back to my stable 4.5 ghz (in bios it's +.025 volts / 1.4-1.64 volta in windows while gaming. Stress test took this to 1.488. I think that's due to the LLC setting of "high" I'm on. This oc produced max temps at 46C during BF4 gameplay for extended periods of time, compared to that of 49 degrees IBT 10 passes @very high memory.

I hope I can find out what I should do about the "LLC settings". I want to take this above 4.5, and it seems like I have the headroom to do so from my temps at 4.5. The voltages are the main problem since my motherboard is the 990fxa-ud3

Many thanks for reading :)
