I have a gigabyte p45 motherboard lga775, 8gb ddr2 ram, gtx 750 ti and intel core 2 quad9650 i'm thinking about overclocking, was curious how much performance increase I can expect to see and how dangerous/difficult it would be to overclock
Well atleast 25%-40%, but without you to do it.
You will need decent airflow across the vrm's and NB (MCH).
Also for cooler, depends, my Q6600 could pull up up to 180W at 1.5V core, soo probably an 150W cooler or watercooling.
Overclocking shouldn't be a problem on that Gigabyte motherboard, but the performance increase depends on how far you can push the clocks, and that itself depends on what cooler you have.
Well, I oced my Q6600 on 450fsb 950 ram and could beat out dual cores (newer gen).
Pretty much with stable oc, with no overheating It could potentially be very good and better than fx.
I have an old cooler from an old computer it's aluminum with one fan pretty basic wanted to upgrade it but wasn't sure if I should try to get water cooling or what would be best
Assuming I get a good cooler how far could I expect to push it and performance increase I could expect to see?

I think you can expect a lowest ddr3 ram and rx 460 performance there
Use some software to make you easier to overcloking the gtx 750 ti and its safe just adjust tge speed as you want and if its go to higher your gpu will restarting to default, be worry for increasing the voltage cause for long time oc will deacreasing your gpu life
