I'm going to be buying a Xeon X5687 which will hopefully be around the £65 mark, and a 970, but I don't know what price is a good price, i've seen some go up for 160, 140, and 120, but I'm not sure what brand to look for, I know MSI, EVGA, are quite good, but are Zotac cards really that bad??

The best cards to go are the Asus Strix, Gigabyte Windforce, or Msi the EVGA or Zotac ar not a bad choice neither, Palit and...

I would say if you go on eBay and bid on a used gtx 970 you should be paying lowest 150 and highest 180 pounds. it´s to consider you could get for 188 a brand new RX 480 which is a bit stronger or a GTX 1060 ( I prefer)

I could probably win one for around 135-140, but what about the manufacturers ?

The best cards to go are the Asus Strix, Gigabyte Windforce, or Msi the EVGA or Zotac ar not a bad choice neither, Palit and Gainward improved a lot. Than you get the more cheap brands like PNY or Inno3D, I got once an Inno3D, although I never got problem, I could clearly Hear and feel how cheap this card was...

If you can afford stick to these brands above wouldn´t recommend an used Inno3d or Manli card, you need to consider those cards don´t have as strong capacitors and components as the card above, meaning its prone to failure

Edit: For 190 You can find on amazon an RX 480 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01JLG7HOK?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=idealocouk-21&ascsubtag=6y-1mnf-qCOqcSogEnZ3aA could be a deal
