I was told that putting too much thermal paste is bad for the computer. Can someone explain the logic behind this? Wouldn't a little bit more paste absorb more of the heat generated by the CPU? Thanks in advance.
The purpose of the paste is not to absorb heat but rather to displace any air that might be trapped between the two surfaces preventing the air from acting as an insulator.

You need only pea-sized thermal paste for cooling down your system. It will not decrease cpu performance. But, If it is too much, then you may face the temperature issues. For more details kindly visit this blog.
