One of my managers at work asked me if I could fix his computer for him. He said he wants it factory reset, and updated to Windows 10, but he wants his nearly 30GB of music backed up. He also wants a new battery. So, for the new windows key ($100), the flash drive to backup and transfer his music (~$15), and the battery (~$20-$30), that's $150 out of my pocket. How much do you think I should charge for labor?

You are on very dangerous ground.

Generally the "cost" is parts plus labor. To make a profit you need to calculate in some % on both to go above just breaking even. I.e., recovering your time and out of pocket costs.

He is your manager. If he is unhappy in any way (or becomes unhappy) with the end results of your work/price you may suffer accordingly. Even if what happens is no fault of your own.

And once you "touch" that computer you "own it". You may end up supporting it forever...... and lose money/time in the process. Any problems in the future may be blamed on you.

Bow out as gracefully as you can. Fixing computers for friends, family, co-workers is bad enough. For a manager - much worse.
