Well I have 4 gigs of ram, fx-6300 processor and a 1 gb vram gtx 560 ti. . Well his has been bugging me for a while... How much ram should I have for gig of vram? If I upgrade my 4 gigs of ram to 8 gigs of ram will that be a balanced amount for 1 gig of vram? or will that be too much? I cant upgrade gpu but I might get more ram down the road and want to know it 8 gigs is too much and will be kind of useless with only 1 gig of vram. thank you and btw I game at 1680x1050 on some games but on harder to run games like watch dogs I game at 720p...

I don't think there's a "ratio", at least I haven't heard about it... And well... What I'd recommend is 8GB of RAM and 2GB of VRAM.

I may be wrong? But I think what you're trying to do isn't really the way it works... See your GPU dedicated memory is what matters here, dynamic can help but it's a lot slower, so if you're facing problems with not having enough graphics memory the only way out would be to upgrade your graphics card.

thank you, well I don't have enough money for a new gpu. I actually just bought the 560 ti refirb to replace my gtx 650. (I know 560 ti is older but its way better). So getting a new gpu is not an option. What I mean by balanced is not having a bottleneck. lets say I play watch dogs, if I have 8 gigs of ram will my vram usage be maxed out and ram be at like 60 percent? I just want a system that's all around good all the parts being on par with each other. so what is the average vram-ram ratio? 1 gig of vram for how many gigs of ram for gaming on average?

Now a days 2 is the minimum acceptable. Watch_dogs is a memory hog, with my GTX 750 Ti and 8GB of ram I'd still have stutters every now and then, and my Husky friend has a 560 Ti too with 4GB or RAM on his computer, watch_dogs ran at like 10-15 FPS, it was bad.

EDIT: I have his 560 Ti on my computer right now, I could run Watch_Dogs and see how it goes... Would that help you?

System specs:
System:
CPU - Intel® Core i5 4690 3.50 GHz
CPU Cooler - Stock
RAM - Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB DDR3 1866Mhz
HDD - WD Blue 1TB SATAIII
Motherboard - Asrock B85M Pro4
OS - Windows 8.1 Pro 64Bit

I understand that vram is for video storage games ect and system ram is for placements of structures, ncps in games. system ram is also used for os, browsing internet and video ram saves video content like your surrounding in a game or a video... I just want to know how much ram is usually associated with 1 gig vram. also will games start locking you out and not letting you play if you have 1 gig of vram and or 4 gigs of ram? Thank you very much

well I run wd's as about 35-40 fps average at 720p medium settings... I used fraps to measure frame rate(not recording just using fps counter) I get a little stutter and I took that in account when deciding average frame rate... highest it got was 50 lowest was 25... I don't know why I am running it so well with so little ram...

You're welcome. ^^

Btw when I said that about my friend's computer, he was running it at 1080P with the texture pack and sweetfx, it was like slideshow city, but on my computer with the 750 Ti it ran around 30ish with some dips, it shows that the 560 Ti is hitting a limit there.

well I just tried watch dogs again with new drivers... wtf it ran about average 45 fps on average even in the city while driving !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was checking with fraps... I got minimal stuttering while entering the city but that's it... I got up to 60 at times!! The weird thing was my fx-6300 cpu was at 100 percent usage and I only had 1 tab open in the background so ram was not an issue... I think I will be rocking 1 gig vram and 4 gig system ram for a while it runs as good as next gen concles or better!

Yes, and let's not forget that you're running at 720P and at medium settings, you're not pushing the VRAM on the card so of course it will run better.

It depends, I've played it on release and honestly the game wasn't optimized at all. I wish you luck but don't push that card too far, it's getting a bit old. :b

I tried on high, yea it was a slideshow. im sticking with medium... btw u think my 560 ti that I just got refurbished will last a few years? I know I bought a dinosaur but it was the best I could get for 70 dollars...

It'll do fine if you're not demanding it to play 1080P ultra games, the new gen is out and they take advantage of more power to play with to make games better detailed, and that will slam your card hard, so I'd be thinking to upgrading, but you can always stick with running games at 900P on medium or high, and go into the advanced settings of the game and turn the texture quality down and play with the Resolution, those are the ones who hit your VRAM hard.

BTW, don't even think about Anti-Aliasing, that will also hit your VRAM.

for antilasting I just do mssx2 or something like that... I at least want a small amount... I usually game at 720 p on harder to run games. on easier to run games like saints row 3 I play on ultra 1680x1050. On a game like shadow of morador I play on high settings 1300 something times 800 something... I preordered gta v hopefully rockstar took there time with the port or ill be stuck at low-medium 720p. I am not really demanding I at least want 720p medium settings 30 frames on triple A next gen titles. My new pc is a big jump from my old 2 core 1.65 ghz amd laptop with an integrated gpu lol. Im not super picky because I used to game on the worst of the worst, but I also want playable games that look decent...

It depends on the cards but... They should last a good 4-6 years if you keep your case well ventilated and clean of dust.

I'm talking here but I'm not really sure. For example, I had a 9600GT that was bought in 2010 and to this date still works fine and it was a heavy gaming/rendering card, always slamming it to 60-65ºC
