How often is it recommended to get a new computer instead of updating it

I had my desktop computer built in 2009. I have updated some parts and had to get new fans. How often should you get a new computer?

That all comes down to specs. I built my PC a few years back, and with my next upgrade I plan to replace most of the system. Save the storage, PSU, case and cooling for the rebuild. New motherboard, CPU, ram, GPU. It comes down to what works.
