Question How safe is this "Grade A" motherboard from HP ?

My I be so humble to ask what HP PC model this is intended for.
I'm almost too embarrassed to say. It's for an old Gateway GT5656. I put in a new PSU and video card, and then I discovered it has some bad capacitors and probably needs a mobo.

Linux runs fine on it, on a SSD. But both Vista (one old drive still has that on it), and Windows 7 have problems. Which could either be the mobo or the drives (they both rate "Caution" on Crystal Disk).

To me the age is meaningless if It does what you want it to. Have you looked on ebay or offerup to see if there is that motherboard + the whole system for cheaper. I bet there is and than extra parts.

If you were asking about this board as a replacement so you could play the latest Indiana Jones game than that's when age of system becomes a huge factor.

I just need a reliable machine as a backup; or for another room, etc. I have been doing a lot of searching, both new and used/refurb'd boards. I was hoping to just put the same CPU on it (6150se, M2, 4GB ram). An upgrade to M2+ or even M3 would be fine, too. But then I might need a CPU. Never replaced a mobo, and I admit I'm a bit bewildered by the process. One thing is certain: No way I'm going to try replacing bad caps. Not at age 73, for the first time!

See you tomorrow!
