Question "New" GPU turns on but no signal, previous GPU still works fine ?

Hey everyone, I recently bought a lightly used Zotac RTX 2080 Blower to replace my older GTX 1660 - but I can't get any signal after swapping in the card. Putting my 1660 back in works like a charm without any issues, so it seems to be purely something GPU related.

I tried reseating the card multiple times, cleaning the contacts, made double sure the power cables work (used both an 8+6 pigtail as well as two separate cables) but nothing changed.
The card gets power and the fan spins, but I get no signal to the monitor.

The only possibility I can think of (aside from the card just being busted) is that I'm not giving it enough power, but I'm using a 550w EVGA Supernova 550 G2 PSU with an MSI B450 Tomahawk motherboard, a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU and a couple of SSDs which according to most PSU calculators should be enough.

I'd like to make sure I've tried everything before making use of the buyers protection and returning the card - any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion!

How old is the PSU in your build?

Have you tried dropping the GPU into the lower most slot on the motherboard? The RTX 2070's were used a lot when there was a mining craze. Did you verify the card was working before you purchased it?

Drop the RTX 2070 onto another known working system with 650W of power at the entire system's disposal. If it works there, then perhaps your motherboard might need a BIOS update(if that's pending).

I haven't, I'll give it a shot - but shouldn't it be ok if the 1660 works in the upper one? My PSU is a few years old (probably 4-5) but I have to say it has never given me problems and keeps working flawlessly with my old GPU

Unfortunately no, I bought it online and the seller told me he tested it, but I have a 3 day buyer protection so I can just send it back if it's faulty. It's a 2080 not a 2070, according to the seller it came from some medical equipment that used realtime AI, it was supposedly never overclocked or used for mining.

I don't have a 650W PSU to test it with, unfortunately. My mobo has already been updated to the latest BIOS available though

I can confirm that the card still doesn't give any signal after using the other slot in the mobo.

Is there actually any chance it's because of the PSU?
Even if 550W was a bit too low for max power draw, it should still at least be enough to boot, no?

According to specs that GPU uses 200W spiking to 240W maximum but at boot time probably just 10-20W so it should BOOT and work under light loads so it's probably faulty, It might have worked when it was taken a but a lot can happen by the time you install it. Maybe some static electricity or something like that, better return it while you can It should be seller's problem, not yours.

Yeah, I guess there's not much else I can try. The box it came in also had a damaged corner and was slightly open - the seller seems completely legit and already sold a bunch of other GPUs without issues, so I'm thinking something happened during delivery and just borked the card, even if aesthetically it looks fine.

I'll send it back while I can, thanks everyone for the advice.

Does the GPU or VGA warning LED light on the motherboard come on when you try to start the computer? Put in a 1660, remove the drivers via DDU, update the BIOS to the latest version (but not the beta version). If that doesn't work, there is another method that helped me personally when I had a problem with "no signal" after removing or changing the card. Turn off the computer. Try connecting the card with the monitor to the HDMI/DP port on the graphics card. If still no signal, turn off the computer and use the next HDMI/DP port and so on. (That helped me a few times) If that doesn't help, change the cable from HDMI to DP or DP to HDMI, depending on what you are using now. Repeat the steps.
