Hello everybody, I finished building my first budget pc http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dHDVf7 I love the build as it is and CANNOT buy anything else at the moment. The pc was supposed to be for lite gaming, however I just found out It can handle way more easily, and iv also taken a liking for video game recording. im currently using MSI Afterburner and it is amazing, but I was doing research and people have been telling me to NEVER record your captured gameplays onto the same HDD as your OS (windows 7 sp1) and at the same time people were saying I should NEVER install games onto the same HDD with the OS as well, So after hearing all that iv been panicking ever since because I want this Pc to last me many years. My original plan was to stop using it till i can afford another HDD in the very far future, however i found a VERY old HDD from a old computer I had in my closet. That HDD is a Samsung HD160JJ/P ATA device 150gb, and it works well with my computer, However because im trying to hard to keep this computer safe, iv started installing games and writing recording files to that HDD, my 1tb only has the OS and computer programs on it. I haven't seen any problems using the old HDD but is what im doing okay? Personally I only have 2 games installed at max, after im finished playing I delete it. Thank you for reading, and answering!

Yes, it will be fine.
But for recording, write speed is specifically what matters.
If the HDD wasnt meant to store data, why would it be so large?
There is no issue with installing games into the same drive as the OS. When the drive gets full it can begin to slow down, but before that point its not an issue.
If you do record, its a good idea to do it to a second drive just to save space and not fill the primary and save performance loss, but you shouldnt use an old drive for this. Old drives can fail, write slower, or run at lower RPM.

Ya, I understand that I shouldn't use the old drive but just until i get the money for a new one will I be fine? Im totally fine with the low write speed and just it being bad in general but im not picky, and if it fails then that's my fault. thanks for answering!

Okay so i can install my games onto my main HDD worry free? and as far as recording goes, until I can afford a good HDD will using this old one be okay? I dont care about write speed i only want it for the purpose of being able to recording to another HDD, thanks for the answer

ya i know, but they were giving the pc it originally came with away at my office since our computers were really outdated and there was no point in selling them, I picked up 4 of those HDDs and just never got to use them so i might as well make use of them now 😛
