Question How To Block On iMessages

I have iMessages on my mac and im getting messages constantly from some people and i need to block them from messaging me! please help i have no idea, i am on OSX maverics and MBP

1) Open iMessage on your Mac

2) Click on the messages of the people you intend to block

3) On the toolbar at the top, hit the tab "BUDDIES"

4) Look through and click Block Person.

5) Select the person and he/she will be blocked from iMessaging you.

That does not work! i am using apples iMessages not messages with another company

The block option is greyed out and won't allow me to select it.
