How to choose CMOS battery for my specific motherboard?

Hi, I need to replace the CMOS battery on my ASUS P8 Z77-V Motherboard. Do all the motherboards on earth use same battery? Or, at least, do all the ASUS motherboards equipped with same battery? How do I choose the correct CMOS battery for my motherboard? I called the guys at ASUS. They asked me to "go there myself for any specific query". So, I am seeking for any hands on knowledge about the same. Please shed some light.

For ATX spec motherboards, they are all the same for as long as I can remember: battery model CR2032. You can find them any place that sells regular batteries. You can get by with the CR2016 but they only have half the life. These are the little coin shaped batteries.

You might have to remove some hardware like a PCIe card to get to it to swap out however as generally the sit in the lower middle half of the motherboard. Unplug the power cable from your PSU in the back, then grab some tweezers (preferably rubber coated) and pinch the release button. it will pop out. Just be careful to not hit the motherboard with the tweezers. If you have skinny enough fingers with the right sized finger nails you may be able to get it done that way.

I've only bought mine in the grocery and drug stores (I'm in the US, so not sure where you are and what availability). Where I am it's mostly either Duracell or Energizer as options. I've seen Panasonic as well and they are up there in quality too. Never buy "off brand" or store brand as they can be made in China or Indonesia with inferior quality (and possibly dangerous).

Also watch out for the expiration date and make sure it's 3V. Finally, there are some shady sellers on Amazon who are selling repackaged batteries made in China in fraudulent name brand packaging. I'd recommend buying from a store over the internet unless you are limited in options in stores in your area.

I am in India. Duracell is an extremely popular brand here. Can't say the same about Energizer though. I will go buy either of the two as you suggested. You are right about Chinese products by the way. Nobody knows any better how to make shitty copies of reputed brands. They can even make a copy of God himself (shittyGod ) if they have to :lol:

so for ATX motherboards, a 3v for the Cmos ??? to be more specific are there higher voltage reason asking if there only one kind to buy for motherboards? i looked in the Gigabyte AX370 4 Socket motherboard manual it's not even Listed in there, so i assume they're all the same. I have only come across 3V CR2032 "button cell" batteries, but I remember reading somewhere that they can have lower voltages depending on nation of manufacturer. Here in the North American market (US and Canada), all we have are 3V. I'm not sure about EU, Asian, or South American markets.

I'm not sure why motherboard manuals don't reference the battery type. I just assume they expect the PC builder to have enough common sense to look at the battery model number and buy a replacement when needed (usually about every 3-5 years depending on quality and age of it when put in by the factory).
