Among the many new improvements included in the Windows 10 April 2018 (version 1803) update, Microsoft has introduced a handy feature called Clutter-free printing.
Previously, printing a PDF, say from a webpage, would capture everything visible on the screen. Now, with Clutter-free printing, the browser removes popup ads and other distractions to create a more readable PDF document.
In this guide, we will show you how to use Microsoft Edge’s Clutter free printing for more reader-friendly PDFs.
1. Open Microsoft Edge
Press the Windows key and scroll down to the Microsoft Edge app. In the address bar, type in and navigate to the web page you want to print.
2. Open the Browser Settings
At the top right of the browser window, click the Settings and More button (the three horizontal dots) to show the settings dropdown box.
3. Open the Printer Settings
In the settings dropdown box, click Print. This will open a window with various printer settings as well as a print preview window. Alternatively, you can press Ctrl +P on your keyboard.
4. Turn on Clutter-Free Printing
Scroll down the printer settings window and go to the Clutter-free printing setting. Click the dropdown box and select On. You should now see an updated print preview with less clutter.
If you do not see Clutter-free printing as an option either the web page is not supported by Clutter-free printing, or you may have an older version of Windows 10.
5. Print the Document
Click the Print button at the bottom of the print settings screen. Ensure that you have Microsoft Print to PDF set as the printer. Select where you would like to like to save the PDF in the popup window and click Save.
That’s it; you should now have a cleaner PDF that is easier to read.
