How to connect 290X to PSU

Hi, I bought Radeon R9 290x DirectCU II OC today, and encountered a problem. my PSU is Thermaktake Litepower 700W. To the question before this card I had GTX570 which had only 2x6pin auxilitry connectors, they were connected straight to the video card which had the same. 290x has 6+8 connectors how do should I connect my PSU to it?

You will need to buy a dual 6 pin PCIe to 8 pin PCIe connector.
Check your Graphics Card accessories. Most probably the converter would be packed along with the Graphics Card

ok sorry if you didn't understand me but what i got with the card is this: http://www.systemagnostic.com/wp-uploads/2013/02/2x6pin-to-8pin-PCIe.jpg and what i had connected to my video old video card is this : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8-pin-PCI-Express-Y-Splitter-Cable-to-8-6-2-Pin-6-Pin-Premium-Sleeved-USA-/380717610257?pt=US_Power_Cables_Connectors&hash=item58a489b511 basically what i did i just connected it to the video card. is there a chance that it doesn't give all the watts 290x needs now?

Thermaltake Litepower 700W PSU does have two 6+2pin PCIe connector

So there shouldn't be any problem

8pin PCIe connector provides upto 150W power while 6pin PCIe connector provides upto 75W. So a 8pin PCIe into 6pin+6(+2)pin splitter(in link you have shown)will provide combined power of 150W just like a single 8pin PCIe connector provides 150W power

OK so just to make it clear for myself because I am a complete rookie in that area. do i have to find another PCIe connector from my power supply so I could give the card 150+75w instead of what it gets now which is 150w?
oh and btw this is the PSU I have: http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00001776 and the connector i have is 1x 6 + 2pin +6pin PCI-E connector so is it 150W+75W, if so wouldn't I be better getting a new PSU with 2 PCIe connectors instead of using an adapter?

The splitter you have shown is to be used with a PSU with 8pin PCIe cable with a card with requires 2 ×6pin PCIe connector. That way the card gets 150W from PCIe connector and 75W from PCIe slot on motherboard. You shouldn't use that splitter on a card with 6+8 pin PCIe connectorss since that card can require upto 300W power but that splitter will only be able to provide 150W power + 75W from PCIe slot

If you have two 6pin PCIe cable then you will need to use 4pin molex to 8pin PCIe connector + 6pin PCIe connector which your PSU already has to sufficiently power R9 290x

Edit :Your PSU has 6pin+8pin PCIe cable, which is exactly what you need to power r9 290x.
You need to use both 6pin+8pin PCIe cable which your PSU has with r9 290x.
You don't need any converter or splitter.
And just to make things clear the 8pin PCIe cable can also be used as 6pin PCIe cable by not plugging 2pin connector which is attached alongwith 8pin PCIe cable or 6+2pin PCIe cable

Just use the 6+8pin PCIe cables on your PSU, plug them into 6pin and 8pin connector on R9 290x and you'r good to go
