How to connect a router to a modem/router??

I have a D-Link modem/router which I'm using as a wireless source for my internet. To improve its range, I bought a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk Router, but I'm unable to connect the two. Please suggest how to connect them. Thanks a lot.

Configure the R7000 as an access point, plug the WAN port of the R7000 into the LAN port on the D-Link. See page 138 of the R7000 user guide.
If you are going to locate the D-Link and the R7000 next to each other, you will probably want to turn off the Wi-Fi on the D-Link.
