How to connect a Xbox 360 controller to the PC

Solution
Well if it is a wired controller just plug it into the USB port. If it is a wireless controller you will need a XBox 360 wireless receiver for PC.

Although these do not seem to be made by Microsoft they should work. I will see if I can find a genuine Microsoft version and update when I do.
Either one of those should work for wireless. Of course you can get the XBox 360 controller for Windows that comes with the controller and usb receiver or at least I think there are still for sale that is how I got my first one and the rest I just got the XBox 360 versions as they work with the USB receiver just...

hmm I dont know how 360 controllers are, do they have a usb plug in? Do you have an IR wireless adapter? or is it IF wireless? I forget.
MotionInJoy is what I use. for PS3 controller with USB.

BEFORE YOU TRY MOTIONINJOY, try to plainly connect the controller to the computer w/o any third party service. Start your game and find the controller options for GAMEPAD or something of the sort. ALSO unplug the xbox360 console because the controller may try to power on the console and connect.

Download latest motioninjoy, connect controller. Click on the 360 option, click enable. Click Driver manager, a driver should pop up, check the box, click LOAD DRIVER AND LOAD DRIVER ONLY!! DO NOT CLICK INSTALL OR ANYTHING ELSE YOU WILL HAVE MAJOR FRUSTRATING ISSUES WITH MOUSE CONNECTIVITY.
Go back to profile tab, click enable and then click vibration testing.

Are there wired connection cables for the controllers? EX: Wireless xbox 360 controller having a wired adapter to the USB to the PC to the back on the 360 controller. EX: A Xbox 360 controller charger cable but made for 360 controller connection for PC use.

Its a wireless controller.I haven't found a cable that is for PC use.All I've found was charge and play cables that only allows you to charge the controller and not use it on the PC.

Yes, but I thought they made mini ones. Ones that didn't have the cord and all that. Ones that only only stuck out like a 1/4 inch from the USB port and that was all. I'm pretty sure you don't need all that wire. Just look up whatever type of wireless the 360 controller is. ex: bluetooth dongle, or IR dongle. IF dongle. I forget which it is.
