How to connect headset to pc so microphone also works?

I have earbuds that have a microphone and they work on my ps4 and phone, but how do I get the microphone to work on my pc. The earbuds only have one connection (one 3.5mm jack), where do I plug this into the desktop, the pink connection at the back of the desktop, or the headset or microphone jack on the front of the pc? I tried everything but the pc won't pick up the microphone, only the earbuds receive sound. Or do I need to buy some kind of splitter tat connects to both the headset jack and microphone jack on my pc?

Should just the microphone work if I just plug in the headset into the mic in and use my monitor speakers for the audio?

usually will not work, th contacts on the plug are in different places, try it but don't be surprised if it doesn't work

the adapter has better chance to work if the headphones with mic you have are not a weird model or standard
