I currently have an MSI GP62 6QF Gaming Laptop with one HDMI 1.4 output and a Mini-Display Port output.

I am going to buy an Acer VA KA270Hbid monitor to connect to the laptop. The monitor has VGA, DVI and HDMI connections. The monitor does not have speakers.

My question is: what is the best way to connect the monitor to my laptop? Would it be best to go with an HDMI to HDMI cable? Or would it be better to go with an HDMI from the monitor to the Mini-DisplayPort on the laptop? Having to transmit sound is not an issue in my case as the monitor does not have speakers, i am only interested in video.

Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Standard HDMI cable sounds like it would work. Why try to re-invent the wheel?

Unless for some reason you like the placement of the mini-DP, then you could go ahead and get one of those cables, or an adapter.

Thanks for the quick answer Eximo. Sorry for the downvote, it was accidental. Yeah a simple HDMI to HDMI capable seems like the simplest option. I just heard some good things about the DisplayPort and thought it might be a cool idea to take advantage of it. Ill probably go for the simpler HDMI to HDMI solution, thanks again.
