I am unable to figure out how to print to my HP 2035 from my Windows 10 PC. Here is the setup:

Windows 11 PC with wired Ethernet connection to router
Windows 10 PC with wired Ethernet connection to router
HP LaserJet 2035 connected via USB to Windows 11 PC

The 11 PC does print to the printer. The 10 PC did show the printer in Control Panel > Devices and Printers. I have since removed it in an attempt to solve this issue. Note that the printer had originally been connected to the 10 PC because the 10 PC was my main machine. I just bought the 11 PC to be my main machine.

On the Windows 10 PC, I attempted to 'Add a printer' but the device was not automatically found.

I then tried 'Add a printer using IP address or hostname' using the IP of the 11 PC and the IP of the router and using both Autodetect and TCP/IP device. The printer was not detected on the network.

I did not want to enable sharing because I thought doing so would mean other users would need a password to print (and possibly other reasons).

Searching for a solution online has turned up nothing that fits my situation. I've run out of things to try so I ask, please, for suggestions. Thank you

Interesting.....

For the moment it appears that you will need to use the "shared" option.

Reference:

Per the link: "How to install the HP LaserJet P2035n in a network environment with Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) using the PCL5 HP Universal Print Driver (UPD). "

"In a network environment" is not the same as a networked printer. Bit of marketing word play I think....

= = = =

My next thought was Jet Direct:

Not sure if your printer is supported even with that. I have the feeling that I probably went in the same circles that you did....

My suggestion is to contact HP about...
Yes - if you share the printer via the 11 PC then the 11 PC would need to be on whenever the 10 PC needed to print. Plus allowing user access etc..

Why not just set the HP 2035 up as a network printer via a direct Ethernet connection to the router?

Configure the HP 2035 with a static IP address via the router and just make the printer a network device. No dependency on sharing.

This printer?

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-laserjet-p2035-printer-series/3662025/model/3662026/manuals

The manual provides instructions.

What make and model router do you have?

On your Windows 11 computer run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt.

That should should provide most of the information necessary to help setup a network printer.

Or you can google "How to set up a network printer" and just work though the configuration steps that way.

Feel free to ask questions as necessary.

I appreciate the reply.

The router is a Sagemcom Fast 5280 from Spectrum.

The HP 2035 has a USB port and a parallel port - no Ethernet connection.

When the 10 machine was my main PC, I had the printer connected to it and had access to the printer from three other devices on the network. I was hoping to be able to do that again.

Before posting here I had searched quite a lot using "How to set up a network printer" and variations - I'm sure the answer is out there somewhere...

My suggestion is to contact HP about connecting and configuring your specific 2035 printer model as a Ethernet connected printer. Hopefully they can provide a definitive response that you can document before purchasing a Jet Direct.

Otherwise you may end up just attaching the printer to one given computer as a shared printer with selected user devices given access without the need for login/password.

Solution
I did the steps under How to Enable Anonymous Access to a Shared Printer on the WOSHub page . I did not do anything above that section because as far as I could tell it was not prerequisite. I still could not print from the Windows 10 machine.

Then I used the Add a printer button on the 10 machine. I tried various ways including adding as "HP LaserJet P2035 Class Driver." Still no luck. When I try to print a test page I get a dialog that says "A test page has been sent to your printer," then a notification that says "Error printing on HP LaserJet P2035 Class Driver. The printer could not print a test page."

I restarted both PCs after I made any changes.

If there's nothing else practical to try, that's OK - I appreciate the help and I'll get my IT guy to look at it.
