How to connect two fans to the same socket?

So I just bought a new case and I have a back fan. I'm using a mini ATX motherboard. So I have 1 fan connected ti a 4 pin currently, and I hooked up the fan from the case (which is 3) to the 4 pin slot and it still turned on. Now I need to figure out how to split it. Ive seen splitters and such on eBay but they have a gap in the middle that I don't know will allow It to work still. How do I fix this? I have attactched pictures so you know what I'm talking about.

Judging by the pictures, any Y-splitter should work.

It only uses the signal from one of the 2 fans for speed information. That's why one of the connectors is missing the signal pin. Put the 4 pin fan in the connector with 4 pins and the 3 pin fan connector where there are only 3 pins. Note that the 3 pin fan will not even be plugged into the pin on one side, only to the 2 pins next to each other.
