Using a router and two ethernet cables. Without using a router, one ethernet crossover cable.

Write down the names of both computers -- control Panel, System, Computer Name.

Enable file sharing and let the Windows Networking Wizard set up a network between the two.

Remember to turn off firewalls on both machines.
