Hi all,

I am using a GM SATA 160GB External hard disk which is USB compatible. Suddenly it was not responding during a data transfer and it shows RAW as its file format.

I just tried windows disk management utility and several low level formatting softwares to fix this problem. When I use the Win Disk Mgt. tool, the formatting proceeded for a long while, but finally terminated with the message that the format could not complete.

Any suggestions????

Thanks in advance....

The method differs from your situation.
If you only want to make your drive back to work, you could simply format it, as the former tigsounds write. You could read the thread.

But if you also want to get the important data that is still there, you should use a recovery program at first and then format it. For further information about data recovery knowledge, you could visit this text.
