How to delete empty (0 byte) desktop icons

run regedit

and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

under NameSpace you will see GUIDs check them(dont remove recycle or my computer ....) if you find remove GUID



if it does not solve use

rd /s /q "file path"
 
Greetings to y'all! I found the answer to this messy problem with the simple program called Unlocker.

I tried numerous proffered CMD solutions, MS solutions and a couple of other commercial programs. Unlocker did it. Thanks Cedrick from me Down-Under.
 
Are you trying to delete the icon or the file it represents? Judging by the fact that you said there's no file attached, all you have to do is right click the icon and hit "delete".
