How to disable DVD ROM through windows?

I want to disable the DVD drive as it is quite noisy and I do not use it that often, but I don't want to unplug the cable from within the PC as when I will have to use the drive eventually I'll have to do a lot just to plug it back in.

You can do that via Device Manager right click on My computer - Device manager -you can find your DVD drive there right click on it then disable
or it can be disabled via bios also

well... the noise isn't bad without a disc, but it's still audible and I want it off when I'm not using it.

not sure what the noise would be if no disc in it

if its some kind of electronic noise then it might be that only pulling the power cable from the drive may help
