Hey everyone! Thanks for taking time to read through this. I've been suffering with a laptop stutter for at least 7 months and have scoured the internet for research.

I finally figured out the root of the issue. It has to do with AMD and fTPM conflicting, thus causing a consistent gaming stutter happening about every other minute. It's kinda funny how it makes me play. Nevertheless, I would like to resolve it lol.

I do not find the fTPM function on my UEFI BIOS (see below for info on it).
BIOS Version/Date:
American Megatrends International, LLC. G513QY.331, 2/24/2023

Does anyone know where to find it? I'll post screenshots for reference in this Google Doc link. Thanks again everyone! I tried multiple methods which Ill list below so as to avoid complicating this forum. If it happens, ah well haha.

1. In Powershell, i disabled TPM Auto Provisioning with this command thinking it'd open up settings to shut off TPM:
Disable-Tpmautoprovisioning
Turns out, no new settings were open and after testing, the game would still stutter with this. Thus, I reenabled it.

2. Turned off Secure Boot in BIOS menu to test.
Turns out, no difference in game stutter. So I knew TPM was not somehow involved with that option.

3. I ran dialogue box (Windows + R) and typed in tpm.msc to attempt to disable it.
Turns out, there was no disable option. Only clear, and refresh. Even so, just to test it, after testing, the stutter remained.

sorry, got you mixed up with someone else.

Does it only happen in games? If so, is it any game or a specific one? if it happens outside games, running in safe mode could tell us something. the lack of drivers in there means games just don't work all that well.
I cant seem to post my reply

lemme break it up into smaller comments.
The only game it hasn't happened in yet is Marvel Snap (the card game) but I honestly think that might just be because i dont notice it if it happens at all haha.

Were you putting any links in post? There are some game names it won't let you post as well, as we get spammed them a lot.

run userbenchmark again, curious what it shows for storage.
bahaha YESSS that's what it was. I was putting in game names. I just posted my reply into the Google Doc link shared before

Yes, forums don't like the first game

Not sure if this would work on ssd - https://www.intel.com/content/www/u.../memory-and-storage/ssd-management-tools.html

AMD rad drivers - laptops are special, they have drivers specifically setup to swap from one GPU to another. The default Adrenalin drivers may not do that... have you run ddu and tried reinstalling the drivers from Asus and see if it still stutters?

Lemme try ur second suggestion.

I work from home so Id be able to try that afterwards.

Also, in case u know of any noise supression apps for free lol, lemme know. I need one and the old version (the version my comp has ssuggessted from ASUS) of AMD rad doesn't have it.

LOL. I sooo misread ur comment here haha. I thought you were telling me to go back to download the one listed in the ROG website (asus link sends me there).

And i did, and now it told me that graphics driver wasn't supported for the game.

Turns out I already had the most up to date Adrenalin version of the AMD graphics.

that was what I said to do, but then

doesn't help. It would have been interesting to know if it fixed the stutter... did you notice? Sure, we don't have any proof it was GPU drivers to blame but it was part of the test/reason to install them.

lol AHH so I did understand correctly haha

It actually didn't even allow me to open up F0rtn1te

Hey all, so I've been working with a friend of mine who's going to school for IT stuff. We got to a lead, but just wanted to throw it out to y'all. This is the link to a guide we were following since we really do believe it has to do with the FTPM. I wanted to get y'all's thoughts on it if you have the time.

A question: if I rename ALL the ftpm files if the stutter doesn't stop after changing the one in the link, would that have a detrimental affect on the performance of the computer?

UPDATE 06 February 2023I just found temporary solution for Stutter problem in laptop that can't disable TPM(like ASUS- No option in bios for disable tpm)Disable TPM (Asus AMD) Works for all pc's - YouTubeLook at this video from balls , he change the permission of file and then search for tpm file in windows>system32. he delete it to disable tpm but I just change it from .sys into .bak file for reason that i can take my tpm system back. after try this for 2 week there's no stutter anymore for my laptop
If you rename them, there isn't any reason you couldn't rename back again if it doesn't work.
I don't think it will have a negative effect, unless you use a PIN or bit locker, as both use the ftpm

we have had fun weather this week.

happy to hear about the weather! Where im at, its usually in the 70s during winter haha

So i did rename them, after which i tested, but it still stuttered.

I do use Bitlocker and a pin. I can still enter my pin. Does that mean there working in the background somewhere? Or if Bitlocker is working, does that mean it's somehow functional?

it must mean those files have little effect on turning ftpm off or not. They might be for specific uses. I don't know for sure.
And if use both of those, you can't turn ftpm off or Bilocker won't work at all.
You would lose access to any files stored in it. ftpm holds the key you need to open it.

So realistically you need to find another cause for it.

the ftpm is in the CPU. It would be on whether windows accesses it or not. So changing a windows setting might not be enough. I see people complaining about stutter on BIOS prior to 331 which is the bios I seem to recall you were on.

We come full circle back to your original question, how to disable it in a bios that doesn't let you.

deleting or renaming ftpm.sys seems the only way... which is what you tried.

looks like lots of Asus laptops have stutters from tpm so you probably onto something, but all of them also hide the ftpm choice.

Its summer here but that either means too hot to use PC all day or storms, which are another thing that stops me using PC all day.

At this point, I don't know what else it could be. Feel like im running out of options 😱

I even tried emailing the CEO to investigate into this issue for all who've been having problems
