Hello all,

I am rebuilding my PC a bit, adding more memory and a fresh ssd for Windows. At the same time, I'm planning to move from my illegal version of Win7 to a genuine version of Win10.

My problem is as follows: my PC does not have a CD-ROM, so I need to install from USB. I've downloaded the Windows Media Creation Tool and am running it from my E:-drive, which has 400gb+ of free space. However, the creation tool complains that it needs at least 8gb of free space and quits on me.

There's a 16GB empty flashdrive present, the only thing I can think of myself is that the tool automatically downloads the installation files to c:, which indeed has less than 8gb free space (which is why I'm replacing it).

Any way to solve this? Or am I being thick and overlooking something obvious?

what did you use the tool to create? ISO or USB?

If you choose ISO you get to select where it is going to save it, and its only about 3.6gb now.

Its possible to USB does use c drive while it downloads, I had wondered since it doesn't store it in ram.

I would make a ISO and then use rufus to burn a USB once you have it saved the iso file to E drive.

You can purchase Win 10 directly on USB.
