Hello Tom's Hardware people!!

To start with, I've been very lucky to have a desktop pc with the following specs:
- Core i7 3770 3.4 Ghz up to 3.9 Ghz (with turboboost)
- EVGA GTX 760 Superclocked 2GB
- 8GB RAM
- 1Tb HDD
- Gigabyte ga-h61m-s1

I use this rig primarily to game and do video editing. Apart from it, I already have two monitors (both LG but with different resolutions: 1600x900 and 1360x768), a mouse, keyboard, and speakers. At school I assist to an extracurricular activity called MUN (Model United Nations) in which I am Press Chief, working to get news published every day of our conference.

Lately, I've been looking at the Surface Pro 3 as a mobile solution to video edit outside my home because I'm too dependent on the Mac people use at the conference. It seems to be good for my work but I was astonished by the docking station it had and how much it had to offer: you know, the ability to carry around a super-mobile device and then link it to the hub where every external device (monitors, mouse, keyboard etc) is connected.

I'd like something similar to that idea but with more powerful graphics horse power. The first thing i thought was to sell my tower and buy a good and capable laptop, but then I recalled that powerful laptops are terrible at carrying a good balance between value and price.

So now I'm stuck and am looking for help to solve this dilemma of mine. Thanks!!!!

There aren't many ways to "edit on the go". You just need a capable laptop, a nice pair of sound-cancelling headphones and a mouse (Who edits with a touch-pad) . If you could go ahead and tell us your budget many people like me could suggest some units for the task. Also, funny coincidence, I was a part of the computer staff during my school's MUN conference last December (Athens, Greece).

My budget should be around 1000-1500 USD. But it would hugely depend on how much would my older rig cost to the stores.
