have crashed hp laptop with good harddrive - want to reuse it in a hp pavilion w/o a hard drive. i have the original win 7 pro disk so i can reload but the laptop has to boot to win 7 to redo

Can't you just swap the good hard drive from the bad chassis to the good chassis. Assuming that the two laptops are exactly the same model there should be no issue - perhaps one or two minor driver tweaks!
