Hi, all,

I have a setup problem that I just can't figure out.

My present components are: Yamaha RX-V377 Receiver, an LG 3d TV and an older Bose soundbar with only optical and RCA inputs.

I've successfully created a passthrough with the HDMI/ARC through the TV, and my other peripherals (BD, DVD, etc) to show video on their respective inputs. However, I cannot get the sound to work from these sources, either from the Optical Out or the RCA Audio Out into the soundbar.

However, I AM able to hear the FM radio through the RCA Audio Out on that same soundbar.

ARC is enabled through the TV and, as far as I can tell, is also enabled on the receiver. The HDMI cable running from the TV to the receiver is connected to each port designated as ARC.

I used to have the 5.1 speaker/subwoofer set that came with this receiver (the type with the crimp wires), but after four moves since then, they were damaged.

Is there a reason why I can hear the radio through the soundbar via the RCA connection but not the audio from any of my video sources?

Thank you!

Is the Yamaha pre set to default to surround sound with those inputs of the non working selections besides the radio.

I can see radio not ever being set to surround sound. Can you see if the other inputs are able to be set to vanilla stereo.

Did you go through the TV's settings; first Settings ➙ SOUND ➙ Sound Setting ➙ ARC Mode to turn the ARC mode on and then Settings ➙ SOUND ➙ Sound Setting ➙ TV Speaker to turn the TV's speakers off so that sound is routed to the ARC. You may also have to change the Simplink settings; refer to the online manual for those.
