[SOLVED] How to enable XMP??

X.M.P requires compatibility with both the RAM and the motherboard. Unfortunately I don't think your Dell unit has the option to alter this setting.

You can check for yourself by restarting while holding the 'F2' key to get to the BIOS. Search the BIOS for anything to do with 'RAM' or 'Memory' to see if you have the option to set the X.M.P. Unless you know what you're doing, I wouldn't recommend going higher than 2666MHz for your chip, even if there are higher frequencies available.

If there is no X.M.P setting anywhere in the BIOS, your motherboard unfortunately doesn't support it. Hope this helps!

mine has the xmp option but only has a “disabled” option

Dell generally won't have the X.M.P option enabled. Even most Alienware units have the option locked and Dell aims to have upgrades and upgrade kits purchased directly at a premium. I've also read that only 'K' series CPUs allow RAM overclocking in Dell units. This is not to say the option is locked across the board.

You could always try a BIOS upgrade by searching the motherboard on Dell's website. With any luck they may have unlocked it.
Also check to see if there are options to tweak the frequency and timings manually. X.M.P is the simple 'one-click' method for overclocking memory but, if you have the options available, you can do it manually with relative ease.
