I consulted the following discussion (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2758618/samsung-magician-showing-drive-health-status.html), but I stll have some questions.

I have a Dell M7710 (Windows 7 Pro) with two Samsung SSDs (described by Dell as 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe High Performance SSD and in Device Manager as NVMe SM951 NVMe SAMSUn SCSI Disk Device). I've had the computer for ~ 5 months. On two occasions over the last ~ 2 months, the computer shut down properly but would not boot again.

On the first occasion, after a number of attempts, the system once again booted and continued to operate w/o problems for several weeks. Recently, it once again refused to boot. I get a “no bootable device found” message. If I boot into the Dell Diagnostics, I get a “no drive installed” message, but I still get test results for both SSD drives. The report states: PSA V4300 ERROR 2000:0155 along with a string of 13 validate codes (6 unique codes).

Once again, after numerous attempts, the computer has booted. I installed Samsung Magician v4.9.6 and ran it. It recognizes the two SSDs and runs a performance benchmark on each (each 100%). However, it does not display the Drive Health Status. I was hoping the performance test would, in effect, indicate the health of the drive. (Perhaps it does? 100%) I consulted the manual and noted that “Magician does not work with SSDs connected via the SCSI controller interface.” I'm assuming that when Device Manager describes my drives as “ NVMe SM951 NVMe SAMSUN SCSI Disk Device” that is a SCSI interface, but Magician does seem to detect the drive and run a performance test. So, I'm totally confused.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out whether I need to ask Dell to replace a bad SSD. The Dell Diagnostics errors seem to indicate a problem (if I understand the report correctly). Yet, the drive does eventually boot and operate. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Download Crystal Disk Info in my signature and see if it will pick up any SMART status of the 951. The thing is the the 951 and also the 851 are samsung drives but they are designed for OEM PC's and the Samsung Magician program usually doesn't see them as Samsung drives because of this.

Either way I would contact Dell Support, tell them you have issues booting and that the Dell Diag is giving you the above error. Also I would make sure you have a backup of everything. maybe even make an image of the SSD using Macrium Reflect as a backup in case something does fail, so that when you get a replacement you can just restore that image and have everything back to as it was.
